Seated Chair Massage is also known as On-site Chair Massage or Seated Acupessure Bodywork.
These are all 20-30min Massage Treatments that are given through the clothes. The client is seated in a specially designed chair and the sessions are often carried out in the work place hence the name 'on-site'
The seated acupressure bodywork sequence is based on the Traditinal Chinese Massange called anma. Anma literlaly mean 'push-pull or press-rub in Chinese. Anma can be tracked backover 2500 years. It is a system of oriental massage that, in a way is a simular way to acupuncture, it focuses on the balance and flow of Qi around the body through a system of channels called meridians. Anma was introdcued to Japan from China about 1500 years ago.
Up until 300-400 years ago all Japanese doctors were required to study Anma as a way of familiarising themselves with the anatomy and muscularture of the human body. Over the years this practice declined and te Anma eventually became licenced only for pleasure and relaxation. During the 20th Century a group of practioiners developed a new therapy that they called Shiatsu. Shiatsu intergrated the pressing an rubbing and techniques of Anma with the joint manipuations of Western physiotherapy and the meridian and point system used in acupunture to create a comprehensive healing system.
There are several schools of teaching seated acupressure bodywork but the sequence, form, or Kata, remains very simular, each one having their own unique distictions. Th routine or Kata we use combines aspects of shiatsu and Anma in a practical form that enables the practioner to move around the body in a particularly flowing way.
